Homemade Ponzu Sauce

Ahi tuna sashimi with Ponzu dressing, green yuzu flavoured olive oil, toasted sesame seeds and spring onion.

Ponzu sauce is a soy sauce based Japanese dipping sauce made with adding of yuzu juice, a famous Japanese citrus that smells divine.

Serve Ponzu as dipping sauce for gyoza dumplings, or sashimi. Use it as dressing for beef tataki or seared tuna or salad. When you will try this amazing sauce, believe me you may want to add it with everything! You can buy Ponzu in a Japanese supermarket, but we all know that nothing beats homemade.

Ponzu sauce is a soy sauce based Japanese dipping sauce made with adding of yuzu juice, a famous Japanese citrus that smells divine.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce

  • 1/4 cup freshly pressed yuzu juice +zest of one yuzu 

  • 1 Tbs mirin

  • 1/2 Tbs rice vinegar 

  • 5cm piece of kombu seaweed

  • 1/4 cup bonito flakes

Directions

  • Remove a white fluffy part from the yuzu peel (it has bitter taste).
  • Combine all the ingredients in a small jar, mix and let the mix sit in a fridge overnight. Strain through a fine sieve and enjoy!
